Joseph A. Trau­rig, 81, of Ne­wark, DE, passed away peace­fully on Fri­day, May 27, 2016 of con­ges­tive heart fail­ure.

Born in Philadel­phia, PA, on June 14, 1934, Mr. Trau­rig was a son of the late Adolph and Ann (Mur­phy) Trau­rig. He was raised in Elk­ton, MD and moved to Ne­wark in 1960. A proud veteran, Mr. Trau­rig served his coun­try as a mem­ber of the U.S. Air Force from 1955 un­til 1959. He made his ca­reer as a qual­ity con­trol en­gi­neer at the DuPont Com­pany’s Glas­gow site un­til his re­tire­ment.

A pas­sion­ate base­ball en­thu­si­ast, Mr. Trau­rig played for a num­ber of years in his youth and en­joyed cheer­ing on his fa­vorite team, the Bal­ti­more Ori­oles. He was also an avid sup­porter of the Bal­ti­more Ravens. A man of strong faith, Mr. Trau­rig was a long­time parish­ioner of Holy Fam­ily Church in Ne­wark. He was a de­voted and lov­ing fam­ily man who adored his wife, beloved daugh­ters, grand­chil­dren and great grand­chil­dren.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Mr. Trau­rig was pre­ceded in death by his son in law, Stephen LeJe­une and grand­son, Owen Pierce. He is sur­vived by his wife of 57 years, Cather­ine “Carol” (Toy) Trau­rig; daugh­ters, Ann Marie Hobbs (Jim), Su­san Trau­rig, Cather­ine LeJe­une, Lisa Ed­wards, Linda Musser (Ken) and Joanna Pierce; brother, Bob Trau­rig; grand­chil­dren, Joey Hobbs (Cort­ney), Tara Hau­gen (Jay), Daniel Hobbs, Nicole LeJe­une, Stephen LeJe­une (Re­becca), Stephanie Ed­wards, Ben Ed­wards, Natalie Ed­wards, Sean Musser, Lau­ren Pierce and So­phie Pierce; and four great grand­chil­dren.

Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be of­fered at 11 a.m. on Thurs­day morn­ing, June 2 at Holy Fam­ily R.C. Church, E. Chest­nut Hill and Gen­der Roads, Ne­wark, DE, where a vis­i­ta­tion for fam­ily and friends will be held from 10 a.m. un­til 11 a.m. In­ter­ment will fol­low in All Saints Ceme­tery, 6001 Kirk­wood High­way, Wilm­ing­ton, DE.
