Ce­cil Le­gion splits sea­son opener against Columbia

The Ce­cil Se­niors split their sea­son- open­ing dou­ble header, de­feat­ing vis­it­ing Columbia 8- 2 in the first game be­fore fall­ing in the twin bill, 8- 5, at Ce­cil Col­lege on Satur­day.

Derek Schoff went 4 for 4 with three RBI, Bren­nan Martz fin­ished with three runs scored and Nick Greg­son went 2 for 4 with an RBI sin­gle for Ce­cil ( 1- 1), which re­ceived a se­cond- in­ning sac­ri­fice fly from Solomon Har­ris.

Chris Roo­sevelt picked up the win, al­low­ing two earned runs with six walks and six strike­outs over six in­nings and Mike Mo­ran added one in­ning of score­less ball with one strike­out for Ce­cil, which trailed 1- 0 af­ter the first in­ning.

Ce­cil re- took the lead in the third in­ning, added four runs in the fifth in­ning and plated an­other run in the sixth in­ning to run away with the vic­tory.

In Game 2, Columbia bat­tle back af­ter fall­ing be­hind by three runs.

Martz, com­ing off a UCL in­jury, made his first start of the sea­son on the mound for Ce­cil, and de­parted af­ter 80 pitches, with a 4- 1 lead. He was re­placed by Greg­son, who sur­ren­dered one run in the fifth in­ning and three more in the sixth.

Will Lor­man then re­placed Greg­son, al­low­ing three runs in a dif­fi­cult sev­enth in­ning.

Har­ris ( 2- 4) dou­bled and scored, Lee Smith sin­gled and scored and Vic­tor Nor­ris added an RBI dou­ble in the sev­enth in­ning for Ce­cil, which re­ceived a hit and a run scored from Owen Null and two hits from Schoff.
