Cecil Legion splits season opener against Columbia
The Cecil Seniors split their season- opening double header, defeating visiting Columbia 8- 2 in the first game before falling in the twin bill, 8- 5, at Cecil College on Saturday.
Derek Schoff went 4 for 4 with three RBI, Brennan Martz finished with three runs scored and Nick Gregson went 2 for 4 with an RBI single for Cecil ( 1- 1), which received a second- inning sacrifice fly from Solomon Harris.
Chris Roosevelt picked up the win, allowing two earned runs with six walks and six strikeouts over six innings and Mike Moran added one inning of scoreless ball with one strikeout for Cecil, which trailed 1- 0 after the first inning.
Cecil re- took the lead in the third inning, added four runs in the fifth inning and plated another run in the sixth inning to run away with the victory.
In Game 2, Columbia battle back after falling behind by three runs.
Martz, coming off a UCL injury, made his first start of the season on the mound for Cecil, and departed after 80 pitches, with a 4- 1 lead. He was replaced by Gregson, who surrendered one run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth.
Will Lorman then replaced Gregson, allowing three runs in a difficult seventh inning.
Harris ( 2- 4) doubled and scored, Lee Smith singled and scored and Victor Norris added an RBI double in the seventh inning for Cecil, which received a hit and a run scored from Owen Null and two hits from Schoff.
