Thumbs up

Cecil Whig - - OPINION -

To Cecil County standing up this week to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day: honoring our fallen heroes and their sacrifice to ensure our freedoms. From the Susquehanna to the Sassafras, residents had no shortage of options for ceremonies to attend, reflect and honor the servicemen and women who give so much to us and receive too little. The Elkton Memorial Day Parade was once again a shining example of how to show respect while also celebrating the heritage of our county and start of summer. Meanwhile, around the county, VFW and American Legion posts all put their unique twist on how to mark the day, from marking graves to hosting guest speakers, and playing “Taps” to firing salutes. Kudos to all who honor our heroes on what should be a day of remembrance, and if you didn’t participate this year, we encourage you to spend a few of your vacation hours to do so next year. Our heroes deserve that much.
