PAWS for People to hold therapy team training
— Do you have a gentle, people-friendly pet who might be good at bringing a smile to children and adults with varying needs?
PAWS for People is holding two upcoming training sessions for potential PAWS therapy teams on the first and last Tuesday of the month, June 7 and 28. Both sessions will be held at the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, located at 3726 Norrisville Road in Jarrettsville. Attendance at both sessions, which run 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., is required.
PAWS for People is a nonprofit volunteer organization pro-
viding pet visitation and therapy services to facilities throughout Delaware and parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Therapy teams consist of one volunteer and one pet who have both completed training and testing. Visitation sites range from nursing homes and hospitals to schools and libraries, with a wide variety of programs including eldercare, psychiatric support, developmental disabilities and literacy skills development.
Pre-registration is required, and cost to attend is $40. Visit www.pawsforpeople.org or call 302-351-5622 for more information.
In 2013, Bainbridge Elementary School teacher Jackie Carter received the “Golden Apple Award” for volunteerism with PAWS for People.
