— A fierce, albeit brief, thunderstorm blew through Cecil County Sunday, causing downed trees and power lines in the western end.

Firefighters responded to a transformer fire on Red Pump Road near Rising Sun, as well as reports of downed trees on West Main Street in Rising Sun and Woody Brown Road in Conowingo.

More than 6,000 Delmarva Power customers were without power when downed trees took down power lines. Fire police kept traffic away from the West Main Street tree because live wires were left lying across the road.

The first outages were reported to the utility around 4:40 p.m. Sunday as the storm drifted from west to east. According to the outage map, the utility is warning customers that is could be as late as 7 p.m. Monday before power is restored.

No injuries were reported.
