Wil­liam Evans Roth­well, age 78, of Ear­leville, MD, passed away Tues­day, June 14, 2016. Born in Elk­ton, MD, on May 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Wil­son R. and Sarah Reed Roth­well.

A U.S. Army vet­eran, Mr. Roth­well was em­ployed as a ma­rine me­chanic with Sawyer Bros., Inc., Ce­cil­ton, MD, with 30 years of ser­vice. He was a ded­i­cated mem­ber of Hacks Point Fire Com­pany, Ear­leville, for 17 years. Mr. Roth­well de­rived great joy in cook­ing for those he loved, and was an ador­ing grand­fa­ther and an ex­tremely proud great­grand­fa­ther. He en­joyed play­ing bingo and trips to Dover Downs.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife of 47 years, Betsy McClel­lan Roth­well; chil­dren, Teresa Boles, St. Joseph, MO, Cather­ine Miller, Ed­mon­ton, Canada, El­ton Roth­well (Su­san), Lam­bert, MI, Crys­tal McE­naney (Randy), Ear­leville, MD, Kim­berely Roth­well, Pa­d­u­cah, KY, and Wil­liam Roth­well (Beckie), Ch­e­sa­peake City, MD; sib­lings, Frank Roth­well, Marie Fo­racker and Beatrice Sal­mons; 17 grand­chil­dren; and 27 great-grand­chil­dren.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Mr. Roth­well was pre­ceded in death by sib­lings, MarthAnne Malosh, Rex Roth­well and Dan Roth­well.

Me­mo­rial ser­vice at Sta­tion 9, Hacks Point Fire Com­pany, will be an­nounced at a later date.
