Po­lice charge man in West End Gar­dens as­sault, rob­bery

— A man is fac­ing sev­eral charges af­ter an ar­gu­ment at West End Gar­dens turned vi­o­lent early Tues­day morn­ing, po­lice

Wayne Elmer Fur­man, 44, was charged with rob­bery, theft of less than $100 and se­cond-de­gree as­sault af­ter get­ting into a vi­o­lent ar­gu­ment, steal­ing the vic­tim’s cell­phone and flee­ing the scene just be­fore po­lice ar­rived, ac­cord­ing to author­i­ties.

Po­lice re­sponded to West End Gar­dens at about 12:34 a.m. Tues­day af­ter get­ting a call about an as­sault in progress. But be­fore offi- cers ar­rived at the scene, they learned the sus­pect had al­ready fled, po­lice re­ported.

Of­fi­cers in­ves­ti­gated and learned that Fur­man had come into the vic­tim’s room that night and started an ar­gu­ment. The ar­gu­ment soon turned phys­i­cal, with Fur­man grab­bing her arms and be­gin­ning to as­sault her, po­lice re­ported.

The vic­tim tried to call 911 on a cell­phone but Fur­man pushed the vic­tim to the ground and grabbed her phone. He then con- tin­ued to as­sault the vic­tim as she lay on the floor, po­lice re­ported.

Tw o neigh­bors in ad­ja­cent rooms heard the com­mo­tion and came into the room. They told Fur­man they had al­ready called the po­lice and upon hear­ing this, Fur­man fled the scene, po­lice re­ported.

Of­fi­cers can­vassed the area and ar­rested Fur­man with­out in­ci­dent near West End Gar­dens, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

The vic­tim had bruises on both arms con­sis­tent with be­ing grabbed and also com­plained of neck pain but re­fused med­i­cal treat­ment, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

As of Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon, Fur­man re­mained com­mit­ted to the Ce­cil County De­ten­tion Cen­ter in lieu of $10,000 bail, ac­cord­ing to on­line court records.
