David James Markley

David James Markley, 73 of North East, MD, passed on Sun­day, June 26, 2016 at Abbey Manor As­sisted Liv­ing, Elkton, MD af­ter a valiant strug­gle with melanoma.

Jim, as he was known to fam­ily and friends, was born in Wilkins­burg, PA, on De­cem­ber 22, 1942. He was the son of John P. and El­iz­a­beth Markley, and beloved hus­band and friend of Pa­tri­cia M. Markley. He is sur­vived by sib­lings: Is­abelle Markley, Ger­ald P. Markley and Nancy Jean Pick­er­ing.

He holds a BA and Master’s de­gree from Penn­syl­va­nia State Uni­ver­sity, where he con­cen­trated on tech­ni­cal theatre; spe­cial­iz­ing in set and light­ing de­sign.

He taught tech­ni­cal the­ater and de­sign at Hof­s­tra Uni­ver­sity, Hemp­stead, NY for 36 years. He also de­signed many shows for din­ner theatre, off-Broad­way and re­gional the­ater. He re­tired in 2006 and moved to North East where he was an ac­tive mem­ber of the North East Methodist Church. For over 30 years, he en­joyed sum­mer months at his River Ranch in Lake Luzerne, NY, where he wor­shipped at Luzerne Methodist Church and vol­un­teered at the Luzerne Mu­sic Camp.

His pas­sions were the­ater, trains, cir­cus, reading and shar­ing his knowl­edge. He was a gen­er­ous and gifted teacher and de­signer.

Fu­neral ar­range­ments are at the Crouch Fu­neral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, 21901. There will be a view­ing on Tues­day, June 28, 2016 from 2:00 pm un­til 4:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm un­til 9:00 pm. Fu­neral ser­vices will be held on Wed­nes­day, June 29, 2016 at 10:00 am.

In­ter­ment will fol­low in North East Methodist Ceme­tery.
