Amos Bar­nette Sharps

Amos Bar­nette “Bud” Sharps, 101, died Satur­day, June 25, 2016, at Oak­land Nurs­ing & Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter, Oak­land.

Born Fe­bru­ary 11, 1915, in Harrison County, WV, he was the son of the late Amos Bat­tey and Ju­lia (Bar­nette) Sharps. He was also pre­ceded in death by his wife, Mar­garet Ex­cella Sharps; a daugh­ter, Ju­lia Avis Ryker; a son-in-law, John Ryker and three sis­ters.

Amos was a school teacher, teach­ing through­out Mary­land and West Vir­ginia. He was a U.S. Army vet­eran and past pres­i­dent of the Elkton Lions Club, Elkton, MD. Amos vol­un­teered with 4H and the Boy Scouts of Amer­ica and worked as a car­pen­ter.

He is sur­vived by a sis­terin-law, Melva Hess, Fair­mont; three nieces and a nephew.

Friends will be re­ceived at New­man Fu­neral Homes, P.A., 1100 Me­mo­rial Dr., Oak­land, on Tues­day June 28, 2016 from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. Ser­vices will be con­ducted in the fu­neral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Don­ald Matthews of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will be in Rocky Gap Vet­er­ans Ceme­tery, Flint­stone, MD.
