Farm Bureau pageant dead­line July 12



— Young ladies in­ter­ested in com­pet­ing for the ti­tle of Miss or Jr. Miss Ce­cil County Farm Bureau have un­til July 12 to ap­ply, ac­cord­ing to or­ga­niz­ers.

Ellen Lar­ri­more is in charge of the pageant for 16-to-19-year-old girls. She took over the role from He­len As­tle, who died in Oc­to­ber. Girls 12-to-15 ap­ply to Holly Isaacson.

“We ask for un­mar­ried girls. Their fam­ily should be a mem­ber of the Farm Bureau,” Isaacson said


Tues­day, adding that bureau mem­ber­ship is easy to ob­tain.

The pageant will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the Ce­cil County Fair.

Lar­ri­more has three young ladies so far, while Isaacson has one def­i­nitely and oth­ers pend­ing.

“This is a great op­por­tu­nity for any girl in­ter­ested in agri­cul­ture or who would like to be a spokesper­son for agri­cul­ture,” Isaacson said.

Win­ners get cash prizes, but she said even the run­ners-up are called on to par­tic­i­pate through­out the year at Farm Bureau func­tions.

Ac­cord­ing to Lar­ri­more, the Farm Bureau Women are do­nat­ing books to Ce­cil County ele­men­tary schools in As­tle’s mem­ory. The Ce­cil County Fair Board also plans a trib­ute to As­tle and Peggy Sprout, who was also ac­tive in the Farm Bureau, the fair and Ce­cil County 4-H and died in March.
