Wil­bur Lindy Shires, 87, of Conowingo, MD, died Wed­nes­day, July 6, 2016 in Abbey Manor As­sisted Liv­ing of Elkton, MD. Born April 8, 1929 in New Bridge, MD, he was the son of the late Holly Wellington and Frances Ly­dia Reynolds Shires.

Mr. Shires was af­fil­i­ated with Janes United Methodist Church of Rising Sun, MD. He was a vet­eran of the U.S. Air Force and is re­tired from Aberdeen Prov­ing Ground of Aberdeen, MD, where he was em­ployed in Per­son­nel. He was a 32nd De­gree Ma­son for over 50 years at Har­mony Ma­sonic Lodge No. 53 of Port De­posit, MD. He also served as a dea­con at Conowingo Bap­tist Church and was a past Pres­i­dent of the Rising Sun Fire Com­pany.

Mr. Shires is sur­vived by his wife, Marie Edith Whitenker Shires of Conowingo, MD; daugh­ter, Ch­eryl Hall Hus­ton and hus­band, David, of Ox­ford, PA; grand­son, Christo­pher W. Hall and wife, Sarah, of Phoenix, AZ; 6 step-grand­chil­dren; 8 step­great grand­chil­dren; brothers, Holly “Deak” Shires, Don­ald Shires, Ken Shires; sis­ters, Betty Bur­cham and Jean Elville; and many nieces and neph­ews.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Mr. Shires was pre­ceded in death by his brothers, Jack Shires and Rus­sell Shires; sis­ters, Ruby McGloth­lin and Eleanor Bur­cham.
