Pitcher Rick Camp, a career .060 hitter, smacks a pinch-hit home run (on an 0–2 count) as the Braves tie the Mets 11–11 in the bottom of the 18th inning. A halfinning later, Camp gives up five runs and ends up as the losing pitcher in a 16–13 defeat that ends at 3:55 a.m. after 6:10 of official game time — but also 2:05 of rain delays. Mets catcher Ronn Reynolds is the only position player who does not see action as eventual Hall of Famer Gary Carter catches all 19 innings.
