Voters pick tourism favorites in inaugural poll
— More than 700 people voted in Cecil County Tourism’s first annual “Cecil Choice” awards resulting in four winners that were announced last week by members of the Cecil County Tourism staff and committee during visits to each venue.
“We were thrilled at the response in our first year with this promotion,” Tourism Coordinator Sandy MaruchiTurner said. “The most popular method of voting was done on a website survey, but some people also voted on social media.”
Originally, the promotion was designed to select three winners, but a fourth winner was added because many voters chose companies that didn’t fit into one of the three pre-selected categories, which included restaurant, attraction and specialty shop.
“We decided to add ‘Fan Favorite’ as a fourth category,” Turner said.
The Chesapeake Inn received the Cecil’s Choice award for best restaurant, Galvinell Meat Co. was named best speciality shop and Milburn Orchards was selected as best attraction by voters. However, Inkaholics received recognition this year as a fan favorite because it received many votes and is considered a service company — not an attraction, restaurant or specialty shop.
Members of the tourism staff joined some committee members on personal visits over two days last week to present each winner with a crab-shaped, engraved plaque to hang in their business.
“We are thrilled to congratulate and thank all the winners for awards well deserved,” Turner said.
