Singerly Fire Hall hosts blood drive
— The Blood Bank of Delmarva held a blood drive at the Singerly Fire Hall on Tuesday.
The blood donations will go toward 18 different hospitals, which are located in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Barbara Dickson, a Rising Sun resident who came to donate, said donating blood is very simple and all she has to do is sit down and a phlebotomist takes her blood.
“It’s a really easy thing to do,” Dickson said. “It’s doesn’t hurt me and it doesn’t take that much time.”
Port Deposit resident Elizabeth Buda said she’s donated 3 gallons of blood since 1995. Buda began donating blood when her late husband, Leon, was unable to give blood due to medications he was taking.
For Elkton resident Kim Artrip, giving blood is an easy way to help.
“I feel good about myself,” she said. “I feel as if I’m helping others.”
Port Deposit resident Elizabeth Buda is in the process of preparing for phlebotomist Mackenzie May to start the blood donation process on Tuesday.
Cindy Robinson, a phlebotomist with the Blood Bank of Delmarva, takes blood from Barbara Dickson, a Rising Sun resident, at the Singerly Fire Hall on Tuesday for the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s blood drive.
Volunteers Sharon Wolfe and Joyce Logan talk to blood donor Kim Artrip in the canteen area where donors come to drink juice or water and eat some food before they leave.
