Singerly Fire Hall hosts blood drive

— The Blood Bank of Del­marva held a blood drive at the Singerly Fire Hall on Tues­day.

The blood do­na­tions will go to­ward 18 dif­fer­ent hos­pi­tals, which are lo­cated in Delaware, Mary­land and Vir­ginia.

Bar­bara Dick­son, a Ris­ing Sun res­i­dent who came to do­nate, said do­nat­ing blood is very sim­ple and all she has to do is sit down and a phle­botomist takes her blood.

“It’s a re­ally easy thing to do,” Dick­son said. “It’s doesn’t hurt me and it doesn’t take that much time.”

Port De­posit res­i­dent El­iz­a­beth Buda said she’s donated 3 gal­lons of blood since 1995. Buda be­gan do­nat­ing blood when her late hus­band, Leon, was un­able to give blood due to med­i­ca­tions he was tak­ing.

For Elk­ton res­i­dent Kim Ar­trip, giv­ing blood is an easy way to help.

“I feel good about my­self,” she said. “I feel as if I’m help­ing oth­ers.”
