Daniel Schnatz, 67, of Elk­ton, MD, passed away Wed­nes­day, July 20, 2016, af­ter a valiant fight against in­sur­mount­able med­i­cal odds. He was born in Elk­ton, MD, on Dec. 12, 1948, to Joseph Sr. and the late Mar­garet (Sis) Schnatz.

Dan was a 1967 grad­u­ate of Elk­ton High School and a 1973 grad­u­ate of the Uni­ver­sity of Delaware. He was beloved as an ed­u­ca­tor and coach; as a hus­band and fa­ther; as a grand­pop and friend and as a truly good and hum­ble man whose ca­pac­ity to give to oth­ers knew no bounds.

Dan mar­ried his high school sweet­heart, Sharon, and they shared 43 years of ev­ery­thing that life could serve up, in­clud­ing hav­ing two amaz­ing daugh­ters, Jen­nifer and Ju­lene.

He ex­hib­ited athletic prow­ess and a love of sports at a young age. That blos­somed into 34 years of ed­u­ca­tion and coach­ing in the Ce­cil County Pub­lic School sys­tem as well as un­of­fi­cial men­tor­ing and vol­un­teer­ing, touch­ing the lives of so many. His legacy will be one of a truly good man who was ded­i­cated to serv­ing oth­ers. He taught us all that kind­ness, com­pas­sion, self-sac­ri­fice and a sense of hu­mor are what de­fine a per­son of char­ac­ter. He will be dearly missed.

In ad­di­tion to his fa­ther, Dan is sur­vived by his wife Sharon; daugh­ters: Jen­nifer and her hus­band, John Eveges and their three daugh­ters, Lainey, Lexi and Livi, of Merid­ian, MS, and Ju­lene and her hus­band, Scott Stephan and their two daugh­ters, Al­lie and Becca of Mid­dle­town, DE. He is also sur­vived by his broth­ers: Joseph Jr. of Ch­e­sa­peake City, MD, and Charles of Elk­ton, MD; sis­ters: Christine Madron of Ris­ing Sun, MD, and Andrea Catan­zarito of Ris­ing Sun, MD; and 10 nieces and neph­ews. In ad­di­tion to his mother, he is pre­ceded in death by his sis­ter-in-law Amy Schnatz.

A cel­e­bra­tion of Dan’s life will be held at 5 p.m. on Satur­day, July 30 at R.T. Foard Fu­neral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main St., Elk­ton, MD 21921, where friends and fam­ily may visit be­gin­ning at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions may be made payable to the “Dan Schnatz Me­mo­rial Athletic Fund” and sent in care of the fu­neral home.
