He­len Josephine Brasefield

He­len Josephine Brasefield, of North East, MD, for­merly of Eas­ton, PA, went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2016, at the age of 101.

She was born on April 24, 1915, on her grea­tun­cle’s farm in Auburn, OH. Her par­ents were the late John E. and the late Alice O. (For­sha’) Kent.

He­len “Jo” grad­u­ated from Aurora High School (Ohio) in 1933 and was mar­ried Aug. 11, 1938 to James S. Brasefield. For 11 years, she and her hus­band op­er­ated their store, “Jim & Jo’s Hard­ware” in Seipsville, PA. Later she was em­ployed by Key­stone Foods in Eas­ton, PA, for 10 years.

He­len was a de­voted wife and mother who loved to spend time with her fam­ily. She en­joyed fam­ily vacations at Ocean City, NJ, playing card games, and trav­el­ing. She was a Proverbs 31 woman.

She was pre­ceded in death by her lov­ing hus­band of 44 years, James S. Brasefield; all of her si­b­lings; a grand­son: Ronald Richard Brasefield; and a brother-in-law: Clay­ton E. Brasefield and his wife He­len.

She is sur­vived by two sons: Edgar James Brasefield and his wife Jen­nie of Concord, NC, and Richard Charles Brasefield and his wife Nancy of Elk­ton, MD; and one daugh­ter: Mary Alice Rudy and her hus­band Randy of Elk­ton, MD. She also leaves be­hind eight grand­chil­dren, 18 great­grand­chil­dren and four great-great grand­chil­dren; and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

A me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at The First Bap­tist Church of North East, North East, MD, on Satur­day, July 30, 11 a.m. with visi­ta­tion start­ing one hour be­fore the ser­vice.
