Shirley A. Mercer, 83, of Elk­ton, MD, passed away Fri­day, Au­gust 12, 2016. Born in Elk­ton on June 4, 1933 to the late Bud and Alice Singleton, she spent most of her ca­reer as a le­gal sec­re­tary and then be­came a real es­tate agent and she had a pas­sion for pol­i­tics. A mem­ber of Singerly Fire Com­pany Ladies Aux­il­iary for more than 25 years, Mrs. Mercer en­joyed read­ing books and spend­ing time with her fam­ily, grand­chil­dren and great grand­chil­dren.

In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, Mrs. Mercer was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band Ray­mond Mercer, who passed away at the young age of 34, brother, Wil­liam Singleton, Jr., sis­ter, Norma Dempsey, and her beloved aunt, El­iz­a­beth Green.

Sur­vivors in­clude her daugh­ter, Krissy Daw­son and hus­band, Jim, Elk­ton, MD, with whom she had lived for the past 25 years. She is also sur­vived by daugh­ters, Linda Lewis and hus­band, Dave, and Donna Hor­gan and hus­band, Tom, all of Elk­ton, MD; grand­chil­dren, Mike Daw­son and wife, Becky, Elk­ton, MD, Ali Pa­tone and hus­band, Marc, Ne­wark, DE, Katie Daw­son and Justin Schroeder Ne­wark, DE, Kim Edler and hus­band, Michael, and Blair Den­nis, all of Elk­ton, MD, El­iz­a­beth Lewis, Wash­ing­ton, DC, Morgan Lewis, Philadel­phia, PA and Chase Lewis, Havre de Grace, MD and great grand­chil­dren, whom she loved so much, Levi and Mar­ley Daw­son, Tyler Pa­tone and Jack Edler.

Funeral ser­vice for the im­me­di­ate fam­ily will be held pri­vately with in­ter­ment in Gilpin Manor Me­mo­rial Park, Elk­ton, MD.

Me­mo­rial ser­vice for friends and fam­ily will be held 11 AM, Satur­day Au­gust 20 at Elk­ton United Methodist Church, 219 East Main Street, Elk­ton.

In lieu of flow­ers con­tri­bu­tions may be made to Singerly Fire Com­pany Ladies Aux­il­iary in care of Hicks Home for Funer­als, 103 W. Stock­ton St., Elk­ton, MD 21921.
