Shirley A. Mercer
Shirley A. Mercer, 83, of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016. Born in Elkton on June 4, 1933 to the late Bud and Alice Singleton, she spent most of her career as a legal secretary and then became a real estate agent and she had a passion for politics. A member of Singerly Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for more than 25 years, Mrs. Mercer enjoyed reading books and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mercer was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Mercer, who passed away at the young age of 34, brother, William Singleton, Jr., sister, Norma Dempsey, and her beloved aunt, Elizabeth Green.
Survivors include her daughter, Krissy Dawson and husband, Jim, Elkton, MD, with whom she had lived for the past 25 years. She is also survived by daughters, Linda Lewis and husband, Dave, and Donna Horgan and husband, Tom, all of Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Mike Dawson and wife, Becky, Elkton, MD, Ali Patone and husband, Marc, Newark, DE, Katie Dawson and Justin Schroeder Newark, DE, Kim Edler and husband, Michael, and Blair Dennis, all of Elkton, MD, Elizabeth Lewis, Washington, DC, Morgan Lewis, Philadelphia, PA and Chase Lewis, Havre de Grace, MD and great grandchildren, whom she loved so much, Levi and Marley Dawson, Tyler Patone and Jack Edler.
Funeral service for the immediate family will be held privately with interment in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD.
Memorial service for friends and family will be held 11 AM, Saturday August 20 at Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 East Main Street, Elkton.
