4 things to do this week

Cecil Whig - - ACCENT -

Chalk this way Trying to add your own artistic touch to downtown Elkton? Make your way to Main and North streets from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to decorate the sidewalks during the Chalk the Walks event. Chalk will be provided for free outside the Elkton Alliance building and at the Cecil County Arts Council building.

For updated information on Chalk the Walks, including any changes due to poor weather, check face elktonarts or call the Elkton Alliance at 410-398-5076.

Mixed-up music The town of Elkton once again invites all to bring their lawn chairs out to Music on Main this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. This week’s band, Mixed Up, is based in North East and, according to its Facebook page, plays “old rock and roll and country music.” Perfect for an outdoor concert under a mid-August sky.

Calling all bad poets Prepare to expel your deepest inner angst — Thursday is also Bad Poetry Day. Grab a pen, some paper and maybe a small audience of unsuspecting friends to perform for. Spare no ears. Now, a bad poem dedicated to you, dear reader. This poem’s for you, devoted Whig reader. We’re happy to have you, we’re happy to meet you. We’re thrilled that you read us and hope that you’ll keep us as your county paper instead of the Aegis.

Meet the ponies Head down to the Rolling Hills Ranch in Port Deposit on Saturday for the chance to meet and groom the ponies. There is a $5 fee for riding and a $25 fee for a riding lesson. The special event will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the ranch recommends reservations for riding lessons. Call 410-378-3817.
