CECIL COUNTY — Major roads in North East and Elkton are getting attention from the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Two miles of Route 272 in North East between Hances Point and Irishtown Road and Delancy Road in Elkton between Red Hill Road and Danford Drive will be repaved. SHA officials say, weather permitting, both roads would be ground down, then a new coat of asphalt would be applied.

Work on Delancy Road is scheduled for the week of Aug. 22 with the Route 272 project the following week. According to SHA statistics, the average daily volume on 272 is 7,000 vehicles. Delancy Road carries 8,000 daily.

These are two of five SHA projects in a $3.8 million project. Other roads are in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.
