Wil­liam Rodney Kennedy, Sr., age 90, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Mon­day, Au­gust 22, 2016. Born in Elkton on May 9, 1926, he was the son of the late Al­fred W. and Lucy McClain Kennedy.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Kennedy re­tired as a district man­ager for ACME Mar­kets af­ter 40 years of ser­vice. He was a mem­ber of VFW Post #8175, Elkton, and en­joyed bowl­ing, gardening and walk­ing.

Sur­vivors in­clude his chil­dren, Jeanie Black, Wilmington, DE, and Billy Kennedy, Jr., Elkton, MD; sis­ter, Joan Scott, Elkton, MD; grand­chil­dren, Ja­son Black, Neomi Kennedy, Han­nah Kennedy and Billy Kennedy, III; and 5 great-grand­chil­dren.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Mr. Kennedy was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Irma R. Kennedy; and sib­lings, Ed­ward Kennedy, Kather­ine Coul­bourne, Doris Har­ris Stan­ton, James Kennedy and Mar­garet Craig.

Funeral ser­vice will held at 2 p.m., Fri­day, Au­gust 26, 2016, at Hicks Home for Fu­ner­als, 103 W. Stock­ton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where vis­i­ta­tion will be­gin at 1 p.m. In­ter­ment with mil­i­tary hon­ors will be in Gilpin Manor Memo­rial Park, Elkton.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tions may be made to the Amer­i­can Di­a­betes As­so­ci­a­tion, in care of the funeral home at the above ad­dress.
