Free­man Newel Galoff

Free­man Newel Galoff, age 93 of Elk­ton, MD passed away on Au­gust 18, 2016. He was born on Au­gust 16, 1923 in Elm­wood, WI to the late, Fred­er­ick Wil­helm Galoff and Mary (Herpst) Galoff.

Af­ter proudly serv­ing his coun­try as an of­fi­cer in the United States Navy dur­ing World War II, he com­pleted his un­der­grad­u­ate de­gree and be­came an in­dus­trial arts teacher. Fur­ther­ing his stud­ies and ca­reer in the ed­u­ca­tion pro­fes­sion, he earned his Masters and Doc­tor­ate de­grees. In 1969, Free­man ac­cepted the po­si­tion of Dean of Stu­dents for Ce­cil Com­mu­nity Col­lege, where he re­mained un­til his re­tire­ment in 1995. In 1971 , Free­man was given an Out­stand­ing Ed­u­ca­tor of Amer­ica Award. He was an avid golfer, fish­er­man, and en­joyed work­ing with wood.

Free­man is sur­vived by his chil­dren: Pamela Emery and her hus­band, Tim of Bris­tow, VA ; James Galoff and his wife, Jes­sica of Mid­dle­town, DE; Penny Galoff and her hus­band, Mark Beitler of Elk­ton, MD; son, and five grand­chil­dren: Jes­sica Galoff, Hay­den Emery, Amanda Emery, Mary Beitler, and Sarah Beitler.

He is pre­ceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bev­erly Sol­berg Galoff; and two brothers: Fred and Robert Galoff.
