Move proves beneficial for Calvert-area thrift store
— Business has been great since Penny Gibson moved her thrift store from the Perryville Outlets to her new location near Rising Sun High School.
“Oh my gosh, it’s wonderful,” Gibson said Tuesday as she prepared for her Saturday grand opening celebration of P’s New 2 U.
Although the store opened in mid-July, Gibson will celebrate Saturday with live music and pit beef along with lots of new, slightly used or gently worn items in her shop at 2835 North East Road. Consignments are also welcome.
“This is a little smaller,” she said of the new store, in comparison to the shop she occupied in Perryville.
However, the spacious parking lot allows for setting up displays of larger items outside. Being on a main road has helped, she said.
“This really brings the people in,” she said.
Gibson has a shoppers reward program, which offers discounts after recording a certain amount of spending. Look for specials coinciding with the grand opening.
Along with the food and music, Gibson is offering flea market space for others.
“This Saturday all the proceeds go to Relay for Life,” she said.
She offers a space for one day for $10, or the same space Friday, Saturday and Sunday for $25. Bring your own table and chairs.
Gibson said cancer has affected her family, which is why she supports the Relay for Life.
“One of my aunts, who was like a second mom to me, passed away,” Gibson said.
The celebration will run from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Her last fundraiser gave $300 to the American Cancer Society.
Call Gibson at 410-658-2299 for more information on P’s New 2 U or the Relay for Life fundraiser.
The store is open Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. while Friday and Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Clothing, furniture, toys and DVDs are among the items to browse in P’s New 2 U thrift and consignment store on North East Road near Rising Sun High School.
