Motorcyclist injured in crash with ambulance

— A motorcyclist was injured last week when he collided with an Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Co. ambulance.

The crash happened shortly after midnight last Wednesday at the intersection of Elkton Road and Thorn Lane.

The motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of the ambulance, which was leaving the fire station on Thorn Lane to head to an emergency call, said John Guzzo, a deputy chief for Aetna. The two EMTs inside the ambulance were not hurt.

“They got out and immediately provided care,” Guzzo said.

The motorcyclist was taken to Christiana Hospital, but his condition was not available early Wednesday.

Guzzo said he did not know who had the green light.

The Newark Police Department’s traffic unit is investigating the crash, but an NPD spokesman did not return phone calls Wednesday afternoon.
