Pedes­trian struck cross­ing Route 40

An Elkton man is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion af­ter be­ing struck by a car on Route 40 near the in­ter­sec­tion of South Bridge Street on Fri­day night, po­lice re­ported.

The 19- year- old pedes­trian was cross­ing Route 40, from the Burger King area to­ward Sea­son’s Pizza, when he was hit in the


mid­dle of the high­way by a 20- year- old North East res­i­dent at about 11: 30 p. m. Fri­day night, said Cpl. Todd Finch with the Elkton Po­lice Depart­ment, who de­clined to re­lease the name of ei­ther the vic­tim or the driver.

The driver was op­er­at­ing a 2013 Volk­swa­gen trav­el­ing east to west from the Delaware area to the North East area, Finch added.

The vic­tim was taken to Chris­tiana Hospi­tal via am­bu­lance where he was listed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion as of Satur­day night, Finch said.

Drugs and al­co­hol were found at the scene, but Finch de­clined to spec­ify who they were found on.

He said no charges have been filed at this time.

“The in­ci­dent is still un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion,” Finch said.
