An Elkton man is in critical condition after being struck by a car on Route 40 near the intersection of South Bridge Street on Friday night, police reported.
The 19- year- old pedestrian was crossing Route 40, from the Burger King area toward Season’s Pizza, when he was hit in the
middle of the highway by a 20- year- old North East resident at about 11: 30 p. m. Friday night, said Cpl. Todd Finch with the Elkton Police Department, who declined to release the name of either the victim or the driver.
The driver was operating a 2013 Volkswagen traveling east to west from the Delaware area to the North East area, Finch added.
The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital via ambulance where he was listed in critical condition as of Saturday night, Finch said.
Drugs and alcohol were found at the scene, but Finch declined to specify who they were found on.
He said no charges have been filed at this time.
“The incident is still under investigation,” Finch said.
