Mom accused of unlawfully taking kids nabbed near Elkton
— A Virginia woman wanted for kidnapping her children — ages 11 and 16 — because she no longer has legal custody of them was captured on Interstate 95 near Elkton on Thursday, according to Maryland State Police.
The suspect, Carshena Chieffo, 35, of Buckingham, Va., was nabbed by an MSP trooper, after the duty officer at the JFK Barrack near Perryville had received a be-on-the-lookout bulletin for a blue Nissan pickup truck with a specified Virginia license plate about 1 a.m. Thursday, police reported.
The alert came from a Baltimore County dispatcher, police said.
The Baltimore County Police Depart- ment, who had been in contact with Virginia authorities, relayed that Chieffo had taken her children without permission and that she was traveling north on I-95, police added.
MSP troopers assigned to the JFK Barrack spotted the truck and stopped it near Elkton, where they took Chieffo into custody, police reported. As of Thursday night, information regarding the time of Chieffo’s arrest was unavailable.
The two children, who were inside the truck, were unharmed, according to police.
Troopers filed a fugitive charge against Chieffo, who remains in custody and is awaiting extradition back to Virginia, police reported.
As of Thursday night, troopers were continuing to assist Virginia authorities with their investigation.
