Thomas Ed­ward “Ted” Davis, 84, of Ne­wark, DE, passed away on Mon­day, Septem­ber 12, 2016 at Union Hospi­tal in Elkton, MD. He was born on April 27, 1932 in Ne­wark, to the late Robert B. Sr. and Mil­dred Fer­gu­son Davis.

A life­long res­i­dent of Ne­wark, Ted proudly served his coun­try in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and re­mained on re­serves un­til 1961. He re­tired from a ca­reer in plas­tics tech­nol­ogy which spanned more than 30 years at Her­cules Re­search Cen­ter in Wilm­ing­ton, DE.

Ted had a keen in­ter­est in and vol­un­teered fre­quently at the Delaware His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety and the Pen­cader Her­itage Area As­so­ci­a­tion, to which he was also a donor of sig­nif­i­cant ar­ti­facts.

Com­ing from a base­ball fam­ily, Ted’s pas­sion for the sport be­gan on sand lots in Ne­wark, con­tin­ued on the var­sity team at Ne­wark High School, and on the field at Ft. Meade in the Army. His love of base­ball, fam­ily, and com­mu­nity was on dis­play as an avid fan and coach in Ris­ing Sun Lit­tle League and at West Not­ting­ham Academy. He loved to write fic­tion and was a bib­lio­phile, fre­quent­ing rare and an­ti­quar­ian book­stores in the Brandy­wine Val­ley.

He is sur­vived by his sons, Jef­frey Thomas Davis, and his wife, Linda, of Doylestown, PA, and Thomas Lee Davis of Ne­wark, DE; daugh­ter, Linda Jean Gray, and her hus­band, John, of Smyrna, DE; five grand­chil­dren; one great grand­child, and a host of nieces and neph­ews.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he is pre­ceded in death by his broth­ers, Robert Bran­don Davis Jr. and Richard Amos Davis.

A Funeral Ser­vice will be held at 7 p.m. on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 22 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, Inc., 122 West Main St., Ne­wark, DE 19711. Friends and fam­ily may visit one hour prior be­gin­ning at 6 p.m. Burial with mil­i­tary hon­ors will be held at 10 a.m. on Septem­ber 23 at the Delaware Veter­ans Me­mo­rial Ceme­tery in Bear, DE.
