Manuel Al­fred Ber­nal, 92, of Elk­ton, MD, passed away on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 3, 2016 in Ne­wark, DE.

Born in Bell, CA, on Sept. 13, 1924, he was the son of the late Frank and Cather­ine Ber­nal. While serv­ing in the U.S. Army dur­ing World War II, he fought in the Bat­tle of the Bulge and re­ceived a Pur­ple Heart, Bronze Star and Sil­ver Star. Manuel was so proud of his mil­i­tary ser­vice and shared his sto­ries with fam­ily and friends when­ever the op­por­tu­nity pre­sented it­self. He loved watch­ing T.V. and had an ex­ten­sive col­lec­tion of over 1,000 movies. As a young fa­ther, he crafted skate­boards, stilts, scoot­ers, rub­ber­band guns and even a ping pong ta­ble for his chil­dren.

Manuel started his ca­reer as an auto as­sem­bler in LA County for Chrysler Corp. and fin­ished his ten­ure at the Ne­wark fa­cil­ity. He re­tired af­ter 37 years. Manuel en­joyed de­tail­ing his ve­hi­cle and took great pride in all that he en­deav­ored to do.

He is survived by his chil­dren: Au­gus­tine M. Ber­nal (Mirla) of La Habra, CA; Luis C. Ber­nal (Pa­tri­cia) of Elk­ton; Rose­marie Ber­nal of Foothill Ranch, CA; nine grand­chil­dren, eleven great grand­chil­dren, one niece and four neph­ews.

The fu­neral ser­vice will be held Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 10, 12 p.m. at Crouch Fu­neral Home, P.A. 127 South Main St., North East. Visi­ta­tion for fam­ily and friends will be­gin at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Rose Bank Ceme­tery, Ris­ing Sun, with Mil­i­tary Hon­ors.
