Howard F. Delp, Sr. “Chief”, age 82, of Ris­ing Sun, MD, passed away on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 12, 2016 at Calvert Manor Health­care Cen­ter in Ris­ing Sun, MD. He was born on Oc­to­ber 31, 1933 in Piney Creek, NC, to the late D. Luther Delp and the late Vir­ginia Blanche (Billings) Delp.

Howard owned and op­er­ated Sun Elec­tric Com­pany with his busi­ness part­ner, Har­vey Coale. He served on the Board of Elec­tri­cal Ex­am­in­ers and was the 64th per­son to ob­tain an Elec­tri­cal li­cense in the state of Mary­land. He was em­ployed as head elec­tri­cian of the Elec­tri­cal Depart­ment at Aberdeen Prov­ing Ground, where at the time of his re­tire­ment he was the high­est rank­ing civil­ian on post. Howard was a long­time mem­ber of Janes United Methodist Church where he served on many coun­cils. He was a proud mem­ber of the Ma­sonic Har­mony Lodge #53 in Port De­posit, MD for over 50 years. Howard was in­volved in many com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions and ac­tiv­i­ties, in­clud­ing: the Ris­ing Sun Lit­tle League, In­ter­na­tional Or­der of Jobs Daugh­ters – past as­so­ciate Bethel Guardian, Bethel #55, Dar­ling­ton, and the Or­der of East­ern Star — Dar­ling­ton Chap­ter #105. He was a hard­work­ing man but re­served his Sun­day’s for his fam­ily and his faith.

In his spare time, he en­joyed NASCAR, par­tic­u­larly Bill El­liott. Howard en­joyed golf­ing, be­ing the 35th mem­ber to join the Chan­tilly Manor Golf Club. He held many cham­pi­onships at Chan­tilly but was es­pe­cially proud of win­ning the Grand­fa­ther’s Golf tour­na­ment on the very day that he first be­came a grand­fa­ther. Howard en­joyed trav­el­ing, watch­ing the Red­skins and the Ori­oles; but his most cher­ished time was spent with his grand­chil­dren and great­grand­chil­dren be­cause his fam­ily was his life.

He is sur­vived by his daugh­ters: Deb­o­rah Kubala and her hus­band, Alex, Vickie Mink and her hus­band, Muncy, and Chris­tine Kil­lough, and her hus­band, Brian; daugh­ter-in-law, Diana Delp; nine grand­chil­dren: Niki McCoy, An­drew Kubala, A.J. Kubala, Pre­ston Greer, Howard F. Delp, III, Mor­gan Kil­lough, Justin Kil­lough, Lee Mink, and Dar­rick Mink; ten great grand­chil­dren; and his sis­ter, Alma Foster and her hus­band, Bill.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he is pre­ceded in death by his lov­ing wife of 63 years, Ruth C. Delp; son, Howard F. Delp, Jr., grand­daugh­ter, Jacki Kil­lough and his brother, Jerry G. Delp.

A ser­vice will be held in Howard’s honor at 12 Noon on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 18, 2016 at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 Wal­nut Street, Ris­ing Sun, MD 21911, where fam­ily and friends may visit be­gin­ning at 10AM. Burial will fol­low at Brookview Ceme­tery in Ris­ing Sun, MD.
