Ravens’ Suggs suffers biceps injury
Linebacker likely out Sunday vs. Jets
— The Baltimore Ravens will likely be without their defensive leader Sunday when they return to MetLife Stadium.
Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Monday that linebacker Terrell Suggs suffered a biceps injury during Baltimore’s 27-23 loss to the New York Giants the previous day. An earlier report stated that Suggs tore the muscle, but Harbaugh did not specify that the inju-
ry is a tear. The report added that Suggs wanted to play through the injury.
“Suggs has a biceps injury. He’s played with that injury before,” Harbaugh said. “He has a chance to come back soon, how soon remains to be determined.”
Suggs, 34, missed nearly all of last season with a torn Achilles suffered Week 1. He’s recorded five sacks through six games this year, including one of Giants quarterback Eli Manning on the play he was hurt.
Harbaugh did not rule Suggs out when Baltimore faces the New York Jets this weekend, but suggested that it is unlikely he plays.
“I’m not going to say anything for this week, yet,” he said. “I think this week will be tough for him, but I don’t put anything out of Terrell Suggs’ possible ability to overcome. We’ll see how that goes.”
Baltimore was already without two Pro Bowl linebackers against the Giants. CJ Mosley suffered a thigh injury the previous week against Washington and fellow edge rusher Elvis Dumervil is dealing with complications from a foot procedure he underwent over the offseason. Dumervil does not appear likely to return soon.
Harbaugh did not provide any other injury updates, besides adding that Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda (shoulder) is also unlikely to play Sunday.
“Marshal Yanda will be a stretch also, with his situation,” he said. “We’ll see how that goes.”
Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. (ankle), return specialist Devin Hester (thigh) and rookie left tackle Ronnie Stanley all missed Sunday’s game. Jimmy Smith, the Ravens’ top cornerback, did not come out of the locker room after halftime with a concussion.
