Vi­o­let Shirley Pow­ers, “Shirley”, 93, of Ris­ing Sun, MD, passed away on Oc­to­ber 14, 2016. She was born on May 1, 1923 in Ashe County, NC, to the late Austin Green Roberts and Gertrude Del­la­fare (Gam­ble) Roberts.

Shirley proudly served her coun­try as W.O.W girl at Tri­umph Power Plant in Elk­ton, MD dur­ing WWII. She was a mem­ber of New Bridge Bap­tist Church and en­joyed cook­ing, quilt­ing, and be­ing with her fam­ily.

Shirley is survived by her daugh­ter, Theresa Gor­rell and her hus­band, Michael “Barry”; brother, John Roberts and his wife, Madge; sis­ter, Mary Sex­ton; five grand­chil­dren: Deb­bie Romich and her hus­band, Gary; Rob King and his fi­ancé, Su­san; Eve Ko­zlowski and her hus­band, Joe; Adam Gor­rell; Austin Gor­rell; five great-grand­chil­dren; one great-great-grand­child and one on the way; and son-in­law, Bobby King.

She is pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Wil­lard Pow­ers; daugh­ters: Mar­garet Go­er­lich and Clar­rissie King; and broth­ers: Her­man, Ker­mit, Paul, and Thomas.

A visi­ta­tion will be held at R.T. Foard Fu­neral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Ris­ing Sun, MD 21911 on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Cel­e­bra­tion of Shirley’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 22 at New Bridge Bap­tist Church, 37 Wy­att Lane, Ris­ing Sun, MD 21911, where fam­ily and friends may visit begin­ning at 10 a.m.
