Thomas W. Gil­lette, age 71, of Ne­wark, DE, passed away on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 19, 2016. Born in Oswego, NY, on De­cem­ber 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Ed­ward and Mar­ion Water­house Gil­lette.

A U.S. Marine Corps vet­eran, Mr. Gil­lette had worked for Man­ning­ton Mills, Deep Wa­ter, NJ, re­tir­ing af­ter 17 years of ser­vice. He then worked in med­i­cal trans­port for the Ce­cil County Health De­part­ment, Elk­ton, MD. Mr. Gil­lette was a lov­ing and car­ing hus­band, fa­ther, and pop-pop. He was a mem­ber of Amer­i­can Le­gion Ma­sonDixon Post #194, Ris­ing Sun, MD. An avid wood­worker, he loved go­ing to flea mar­kets, yard sales, trav­el­ing and fish­ing.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife, Mary Roland Gil­lette; chil­dren, Jerry Davis and wife, Bev­erly, Elk­ton, MD, Kim Wil­son and hus­band, Mike, Ne­wark, DE, Angie Lee and hus­band, Ron­nie, Blen­heim, NJ, Nancy Davis and fi­ancé, David Clark, Elk­ton, MD, Denise Moore and fi­ancé, John McCann, Winch­ester, VA, and Wayne Roland and fi­ancée, Shani Har­ri­gan, Charlestown, MD; sib­lings, Barb Rhine­hart and hus­band, Garry, Parish, NY, and Charles “Bum­mer” Gil­lette and wife, Alice, Ful­ton, NY; 13 grand­chil­dren; and 15 great-grand­chil­dren.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Mr. Gil­lette was pre­ceded in death by his first wife, Carol Gil­lette; daugh­ter, Cindy Mears; son, Ken­neth Roland; brother, Robert Gil­lette; and great-grand­daugh­ter, Jailen Martin.

Fu­neral ser­vice with mil­i­tary hon­ors will be held at 10 a.m., Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 25, 2016, at Hicks Home for Fu­ner­als, 103 W. Stock­ton Street, Elk­ton, MD, where visi­ta­tion will be­gin at 8 a.m. In­ter­ment will be pri­vate.
