Nel­lie O. Gray


Nel­lie O. Gray, 90 years young of Perryville, MD, went to be with the Lord on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 20, 2016.

Born in Nor­folk, VA, on Oc­to­ber 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lewis W. and Oresa (Owens) Mercer. In 1943 she met and mar­ried Rev. Ed­ward G. Gray, Jr. They were mar­ried 67 won­der­ful years prior to his pass­ing on Au­gust 28, 2010.

Mrs. Gray served as Li­brar­ian for Ce­cil County Pub­lic Li­brary un­til her re­tire­ment.

She was an avid reader, won­der­ful gar­dener and fabulous cook. A strong sup­porter of her hus­band’s min­istry, Mrs. Gray never met a stranger. She was a friend to all, show­ing a true love of ev­ery­one around her but also shar­ing with them her great sense of hu­mor. She was the epit­ome of Grace and Beauty.

Sur­vivors in­clude her chil­dren: Con­nie Orser of New Brunswick, Canada, San­dra Price of Bar­ring­ton, NH, Ed­ward Gray III of North East, MD, Wayne Gray of PA, the late Phillip Gray and Resa Laird of North East, MD; a brother: Robert Mercer of Burling­ton, NC and sis­ter: Nancy Hadad of York, ME. She is also sur­vived by 13 grand­chil­dren, 22 great grand­chil­dren and 3 great­great grand­chil­dren.

She was also pre­ceded in death by her brother: Lewis Mercer and her sis­ter: Bar­bara Mercer.

Funeral ser­vices, con­ducted by Rev. David Price will be held Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.

In­ter­ment will fol­low ser­vices in Prin­ci­pio Ceme­tery, Perryville, MD.

Funeral ser­vices are sched­uled for Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 26, 2016, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Pat­ter­son & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Vis­i­ta­tion for fam­ily and friends will be held Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 25, 2016, 6 PM un­til 8 PM, at the funeral home. Pas­tor Michael A. Cald­well of As­bury United Methodist Church of Port De­posit, MD, will of­fi­ci­ate. In­ter­ment will be in Hopewell Ceme­tery, Port De­posit, MD.

In ad­di­tion to his fa­ther, Chris was pre­ceded in death by his daughter, Layla Elise Pyle. He is sur­vived by his mother, Carol D. Pyle of Ne­wark, DE; chil­dren, Ai­den, Bianca and Elise Pyle, and their mother, Maple Soukup, all of Wilm­ing­ton, DE; sis­ters, Wendy L. John­son of Elk­ton and Dawn Pyle of Ne­wark; and nieces, Ali­son and Kris­ten John­son.

A vis­i­ta­tion for fam­ily and friends will be held from 10 a.m. un­til 12 Noon on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 27 at the White Clay Creek Pres­by­te­rian Church, 15 Polly Drum­mond Hill Road, Ne­wark, DE, where a me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at 12 Noon. In­ter­ment will be pri­vate.
