Au­drey Cler­i­hue Barnard

Au­drey Rae Cler­i­hue was born March 27, 1922 in Charleroi, PA, the third daughter of Leti­tia Mor­ris Cler­i­hue and Charles Hamil­ton Cler­i­hue. She lived in Ohio and Penn­syl­va­nia be­fore the fam­ily moved to Cumberland, MD, where she met Ge­orge W. Barnard at Al­le­gany High School. They mar­ried in 1941 while he was a stu­dent at Univer­sity of Mary­land. Over the years they lived in Bal­ti­more and Sil­ver Spring, MD; Yard­ley, PA; Mid­dle­town and Hills­bor­ough, NJ; and Char­lotte, NC; be­fore set­tling in North East, MD. In 2003, they moved to Ware Pres­by­te­rian Vil­lage in Ox­ford, PA.

Au­drey served as a vol­un­teer in hos­pi­tals, out­reach pro­grams and other lo­cal or­ga­ni­za­tions in Mon­mouth County, NJ; Bal­ti­more and North East, MD. She be­longed to the North East Women’s Civic League, Gar­den Club, Red Hats and St. Mary Anne’s Out­reach.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band of 74 years, Ge­orge W. Barnard; her twin sons; and her dear sis­ters, Lois Mae Metz and Roma Fae Mindler. She is sur­vived by her daughter, Pamela Barnard Childers and son-in-law, Mal­colm Graeme Childers.

Ser­vices will be held at the con­ve­nience of the fam­ily. In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions may be sent to Wil­low Tree Hos­pice.
