Indians host rival Tigers to open soccer playoffs
The 2A East Region Section I boys’ soccer tournament will begin with a head-to-head battle of two Cecil County rivals Thursday night.
Fourth-seeded North East hosts Rising Sun, the tournament’s fifth seed, at 6 p.m.
The meeting will be a rematch of a contest played just 15 days earlier, when the Tigers (4-8) earned a 5-2 home victory. Rising Sun led 3-0 at halftime behind two first-half goals from Jared Edmundson.
The Indians (4-7-1) pulled within a goal after the break thanks to goals by Brad Hubbard and Oliver Debris only a minute apart, but the Tigers tallied the game’s final two points.
Rising Sun competed in the upper Chesapeake Division for a consecutive year, while North East was a member of the Susquehanna.
The winner of Thursday’s game will advance to face top-seeded Elkton on Tuesday.
The Golden Elks enjoyed a 9-2-1 record while only dropping and tying one lower-division game.
Elkton defeated both Rising Sun and North East in the regular season. More recently, the Elks topped the Indians 1-0 on Oct. 10. Elkton freshman Jake Bosler, who has put impressive scoring numbers all season, buried a penalty kick with less than 15 minutes to play to deliver his team the victory.
Bosler also scored a goal during the Elks’ 2-0 win over the Tigers on Sept. 15. Senior Serebe Kajube also found the back of the net for Elkton in the opening half.
