Karen Lynn Gough
Karen Lynn Gough, 58, of North East, MD, passed away of natural causes on Monday, October 24, 2016 at her home. Born April 10, 1958 in Havre de Grace, MD, Karen was the daughter of the late Johnny Gilbert Lough and the late June Lee (Thompson) Lough.
Karen dedicated her life to helping others overcome addiction. For the last 12 years, she worked at the Ashley Addiction Treatment Center, formerly known as Father Martin’s Ashley. She was a 1976 graduate of Rising Sun High School. She was a talented musician and could play any instrument she picked up. She loved music, movies, and cats.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Kari Gough Phillips, and her husband, Michael, of North East; and her daughter, Niki Blumberg, and her husband, Darren, of Basking Ridge, NJ; and five grandchildren: Elise and Gabriel Phillips, Jack, Lucas, and Katherine Blumberg. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Robertson; brother, John Lough, and his wife, Barbara Jodlbauer-Lough; friend and former spouse, Rick Gough; numerous nieces and nephews; and her best friend and friend of the family, Wesley Poist.
A service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be mailed to the Chesapeake Feline Association, P.O. Box 743, North East, MD 21901.

Ms. Lively was a longtime member of Five Rivers Church (formerly Elkton First Assembly of God), having attended for over 55 years. She loved attending the Senior Adult Sunday School class taught many years by Rev. James Murphy and the late John Higgins. Ms. Lively volunteered with the Singerly Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was a former member of the Cecil County Democrat Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlyn “Susie” Lively, Elkton, MD; sister, Betty Schneiders, Lake City, FL; cousins, Flo Eder, Delaware, Harold Kincaid, Florida, and Terry Kincaid, Oregon; and her beloved grandcat, Ashbey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Aunt Bud”.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Lively was preceded in death by her sisters, Launa Branum and Helen Schneiders; baby brother, Buster Lively; step-father, Ellis Connor; and brothers-inlaw, George Branum, Clarence Schneiders, and James Schneiders.
Her daughter would like to thank her mother’s caregivers from Amedisys Hospice, as well as many friends whose support during her mother’s illness meant so much.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Five Rivers Church, 290 White Hall Road, Elkton, MD 21921, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Elkton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sunday School Department, the Prime Timers Ministry, or the Hammers with Hearts, in care of the church at the above address.
