Karen Lynn Gough, 58, of North East, MD, passed away of nat­u­ral causes on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 24, 2016 at her home. Born April 10, 1958 in Havre de Grace, MD, Karen was the daugh­ter of the late Johnny Gil­bert Lough and the late June Lee (Thomp­son) Lough.

Karen ded­i­cated her life to help­ing oth­ers over­come ad­dic­tion. For the last 12 years, she worked at the Ash­ley Ad­dic­tion Treat­ment Cen­ter, for­merly known as Fa­ther Martin’s Ash­ley. She was a 1976 grad­u­ate of Ris­ing Sun High School. She was a tal­ented mu­si­cian and could play any in­stru­ment she picked up. She loved mu­sic, movies, and cats.

Karen is survived by her daugh­ter, Kari Gough Phillips, and her hus­band, Michael, of North East; and her daugh­ter, Niki Blum­berg, and her hus­band, Dar­ren, of Bask­ing Ridge, NJ; and five grand­chil­dren: Elise and Gabriel Phillips, Jack, Lu­cas, and Kather­ine Blum­berg. She is also survived by her sis­ter, Sharon Robert­son; brother, John Lough, and his wife, Bar­bara Jodl­bauer-Lough; friend and for­mer spouse, Rick Gough; nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews; and her best friend and friend of the fam­ily, Wes­ley Poist.

A ser­vice to cel­e­brate Karen’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 30 at R.T. Foard Fu­neral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Ris­ing Sun, MD 21911, where fam­ily and friends may visit begin­ning at 11 a.m.

Ms. Lively was a long­time mem­ber of Five Rivers Church (for­merly Elk­ton First As­sem­bly of God), hav­ing at­tended for over 55 years. She loved at­tend­ing the Se­nior Adult Sun­day School class taught many years by Rev. James Mur­phy and the late John Hig­gins. Ms. Lively vol­un­teered with the Singerly Fire Com­pany Ladies Aux­il­iary and was a for­mer mem­ber of the Ce­cil County Demo­crat Club.

Sur­vivors in­clude her daugh­ter, Mar­lyn “Susie” Lively, Elk­ton, MD; sis­ter, Betty Sch­nei­ders, Lake City, FL; cousins, Flo Eder, Delaware, Harold Kin­caid, Florida, and Terry Kin­caid, Ore­gon; and her beloved grand­cat, Ash­bey. She is also survived by many nieces and neph­ews who af­fec­tion­ately called her “Aunt Bud”.

In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, Ms. Lively was pre­ceded in death by her sis­ters, Launa Branum and He­len Sch­nei­ders; baby brother, Buster Lively; step-fa­ther, El­lis Con­nor; and broth­ers-in­law, George Branum, Clarence Sch­nei­ders, and James Sch­nei­ders.

Her daugh­ter would like to thank her mother’s care­givers from Amedisys Hospice, as well as many friends whose sup­port dur­ing her mother’s ill­ness meant so much.

Fu­neral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m., Tues­day, Novem­ber 1, 2016, at Five Rivers Church, 290 White Hall Road, Elk­ton, MD 21921, where visi­ta­tion will be­gin at 9:30 a.m. In­ter­ment will be in Union Ceme­tery, Elk­ton.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tions may be made to the Sun­day School De­part­ment, the Prime Timers Min­istry, or the Ham­mers with Hearts, in care of the church at the above ad­dress.
