Diaz de­liv­ers Top 10 fin­ish at state golf tour­ney

Play­ing in the fi­nal state golf tour­na­ment of her high school ca­reer, Elk­ton se­nior Ge­n­e­sis Diaz fired a 10-over par 82 in the 2A-1A State Fi­nal at the Univer­sity of Mary­land Golf Course in Col­lege Park on Wed­nes­day to fin­ish with the 10th-best score among what started out as nearly 40 fe­males. Her per­for­mance fol­lowed up a 12-over par 84 on Tues­day in the state semi­fi­nals.

Bo­hemia Manor se­nior Hunter Tollinger fired a 92 in the semi­fi­nals but missed the in­di­vid­ual cut. Over their stel­lar ca­reers, the duo com­bined to make seven state tour­na­ment ap­pear­ances.

The Pan­thers won by set scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-16.

Gabby Good­now led Per­ryville (12-2 over­all, 10-2 Ch­e­sa­peake) with 11 points, four blocks and 12 digs, Teri Wen­ner­sten recorded seven kills and two block and Rose Porch handed out 27 as­sists with 16 digs, while Hai­ley Jones added 17 digs.

The Cougars fall to 7-4 over­all and 6-4 in the up­per di­vi­sion.

Ris­ing Sun 3, Bel Air 0

The Tigers won by set scores of 25-7, 25-4 and 25-10.

Lacey Swartout led Ris­ing Sun (13-0 over­all, 11-0 Ch­e­sa­peake) with 10 kills, Bre­anne Ha­ley recorded seven kills, four digs and four aces and Sarah Wil­liams had 13 as­sists and 10 aces, while Macken­zie Blevins added 16 as­sists and five aces.

The Bob­cats fall to 2-9 over­all and 2-9 in the up­per di­vi­sion.
