Diaz delivers Top 10 finish at state golf tourney
Playing in the final state golf tournament of her high school career, Elkton senior Genesis Diaz fired a 10-over par 82 in the 2A-1A State Final at the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park on Wednesday to finish with the 10th-best score among what started out as nearly 40 females. Her performance followed up a 12-over par 84 on Tuesday in the state semifinals.
Bohemia Manor senior Hunter Tollinger fired a 92 in the semifinals but missed the individual cut. Over their stellar careers, the duo combined to make seven state tournament appearances.

The Panthers won by set scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-16.
Gabby Goodnow led Perryville (12-2 overall, 10-2 Chesapeake) with 11 points, four blocks and 12 digs, Teri Wennersten recorded seven kills and two block and Rose Porch handed out 27 assists with 16 digs, while Hailey Jones added 17 digs.
The Cougars fall to 7-4 overall and 6-4 in the upper division.

The Tigers won by set scores of 25-7, 25-4 and 25-10.
Lacey Swartout led Rising Sun (13-0 overall, 11-0 Chesapeake) with 10 kills, Breanne Haley recorded seven kills, four digs and four aces and Sarah Williams had 13 assists and 10 aces, while Mackenzie Blevins added 16 assists and five aces.
The Bobcats fall to 2-9 overall and 2-9 in the upper division.
