No. 1 Elkton at Patterson Mill When: 7 tonight Last Meeting: Oct. 30, 2015 – Elkton won, 47- 0
Outlook: The Elkton football team will take the field tonight looking to move one step closer to becoming the first team since 2011- 12 Perryville to complete back- to- back undefeated seasons in the Susquehanna Division.
The task will tougher than it seemed earlier in the season.
The Elks ( 7- 1 overall, 5- 0 division) will face off on the road against Patterson Mill ( 2- 6, 2- 3), which will take the field for just the second time— and the first at home—since the sudden death of Huskies senior lineman Issac Pfarr. Elkton must be wary of an emotionally- charged Patterson Mill squad hoping to maintain the momentum from last Thursday’s 45- 26 win over Rising Sun, a team that lost by one score to Elkton earlier in the season.
A heavy dose of the Elkton run game, specifically from Raiquon Estep (four rushing touchdowns last week against Bohemia Manor), is a good way to take control of the game. Look for the Elks, who struggled in the first half last Thursday against the Eagles, to try to find the scoreboard early to avoid entering halftime trailing in back- to- back games.
Harford Tech at Rising Sun When: 7 tonight Last Meeting: Oct. 30, 2015 – Rising Sun won, 42-7
Outlook: It’s been a difficult two weeks for the Rising Sun football team, which followed an impressive win over Bohemia Manor, a near miss against Elkton and a blowout victory against North East with back-to-back lopsided losses to a pair of teams with a combined 5-11 record.
The Tigers (2-6 overall, 2-3 Susquehanna) will look to straighten the ship tonight when they host Harford Tech (4-4, 2-3). Mean- while, the Cobras will aim to extend their modest two-game winning streak.
Rising Sun has found success this season running the football and will likely lean on its talented backfield in this game. To win, though, the Tigers will likely need strong play by the defense, which has given up nearly 100 points combined the past two weeks.
Perryville at Joppatowne When: 7 tonight Last Meeting: Oct. 30, 2015, Perryville won, 40-7
Outlook: There is zero room for error for the Perryville football team.
The Panthers (3-5 overall, 3-2 Susquehanna) need victories in both their final two football contests and likely a loss from a team above them in the state football rankings to earn a spot in the 1A East Region playoffs for the first time since 2013.
Perryville’s test tonight will be host Joppatowne (3-5, 3-2), a Harford County squad that has posted wins in three of its last four contests. Meanwhile, the Panthers will enter with momentum following a 49-12 victory over North East.
On what should be a cold October evening, expect Perryville to attack the sticks with a smashmouth offense and rely on the legs of senior fullback Zac Zacerous to move the chains.
