Office who lives in Perryville has been suspended with pay while he’s investigated on charges of theft and theft by scheme, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said Thursday.

Senior Deputy Carlos Jusino, 45, was served a criminal summons Wednesday charging him with theft under $ 1,000, theft scheme and providing a false statement to a law enforcement officer. He was suspended Sept. 15 when the investigation was launched. Jusino will remain suspended until the investigation is complete.

The allegations do not involve inmates, and the charges are considered misdemeanors.

Jusino was hired by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office in September 2000.

Sheriff’s office spokesperson Cristie Kahler said she could not divulge details of the alleged theft or of the investigation against Jusino.

“We don’t want to damage the integrity of the in- vestigation,” Kahler said.

In a release Kahler quoted Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, saying, “... He believes credibility is one of the most important elements that define the effectiveness of a law enforcement agency.”
