Man struck, killed af­ter crash

— A man who had walked away from a head-on col­li­sion scene near Elk­ton on Tues­day night was killed in that area ap­prox­i­mately 30 min­utes later — when he was struck by a vehicle af­ter jump­ing out the bed of a pickup truck, ac­cord­ing to Mary­land State Po­lice.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors iden­ti­fied the vic­tim as Ja­son Dale Owens, 35, of Not­ting­ham, Pa.

Owens was pro­nounced dead at the scene on Tele­graph Road (Route 273), east of Hill­top Road and north of Elk­ton, where he had been struck by a sport util­ity vehicle af­ter jump­ing off the truck onto the high­way, po­lice re­ported.

That fa­tal in­ci­dent oc­curred af­ter Owens had been in­volved in a head-on col­li­sion on Tele­graph Road near Lit­tle Elk Creek Road, a short dis­tance away, about a half-hour ear­lier and fled, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

Owens had been driv­ing a 2006 Hyundai Sante Fe in the west­bound lane of Tele­graph Road about 6:45 p.m. Tues­day when his SUV in­ex­pli­ca­bly crossed the cen­ter­line and struck an east­bound 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven
