Elkton man gets 45 days for 45 bags of heroin
— A man caught in downtown Elkton with 45 baggies of heroin in April has received a 45-day jail term after accepting a plea deal, according to Cecil County Circuit Court records.
Cecil County Circuit Court Judge Jane Cairns Murray imposed a maximum four-year sentence on the defendant, Malik Stewart, 20, of the 100 block of Quail Court in Elkton, on Monday and then suspended all but 45 days of it, court records show.
Stewart, who pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, also was ordered to serve three years of supervised probation.
Stewart was arrested on
April 19 after Elkton Police Department Ofc. Gabriel Rimolo spotted him leaning against a parked car while patrolling in the 200 block of Douglas Street and — familiar with Stewart and aware that he was wanted on a bench warrant — the officer took him into custody, police said.
After arresting Stewart on the warrant charging him with failure to appear for court in an unrelated case, police added, Rimolo searched Stewart and found a plastic sandwich bag holding 45 packets of heroin and $245.
The heroin was wrapped in four “bundles” held together with rubber bands, and each bundle contained 12 to 13 small ziplock baggies of heroin, police reported.
