Gene Pa­trick “Pat” Ward, 85, of Ch­e­sa­peake City, MD, passed away on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 30, 2016. He was born on June 3, 1931, in Elkton, MD, to the late Joseph Vin­cent Ward and Char­lotte Matilda (Hostet­ter) Ward.

Pat grad­u­ated from the Ja­cob Tome In­sti­tute in 1949 and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953, re­tir­ing on May 1, 1964, with the rank of Lieu­tenant Com­man­der. He re­turned to Ce­cil County and worked for the CE­CIL WHIG as a re­porter and later as the editor. In 1969, he at­tended the Univer­sity Of Mary­land School Of Law and was ad­mit­ted to the Bar in 1972. Pat prac­ticed law for over thirty years. He en­joyed trav­el­ing, play­ing bridge, read­ing, and spend­ing time with his fam­ily and friends. He also loved to watch horse rac­ing and Navy foot­ball, es­pe­cially the Army-Navy game.

Pat is sur­vived by his wife of 55 years, Chris­tine Ward of Ch­e­sa­peake City, MD; his son Michael Ward and wife Beth of Mid­dle­town, DE; daugh­ter Michele Ward of Bear, DE; two grand­chil­dren: Brit­tany Borgese and Emily Ward of Mid­dle­town, DE; sis­ter Martha Ward Bog­danovitch and hus­band James of Rut­land, VT; un­cle E. Ralph Hostet­ter of North East, MD, and sev­eral nieces, neph­ews, and cousins. In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Pat was pre­ceded in death by his brother Joseph V. Ward, Jr.

A memo­rial ser­vice for Pat may be held at a fu­ture date at the fam­ily’s dis­cre­tion.
