Jim­mie L. Lester, Sr., age 82, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Tues­day, De­cem­ber 6, 2016. Born in Hurley, VA, on April 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Ira and Faye Mullins Lester.

Mr. Lester had worked for United Coal Com­pany, Hurley, and re­tired from the Chrysler Cor­po­ra­tion, Ne­wark, DE, as an as­sem­bler. He was a mem­ber of Fel­low­ship Bap­tist Church, Elkton, where he was an or­dained min­is­ter and served as dea­con. Mr. Lester en­joyed spend­ing time out­doors and mak­ing hos­pi­tal visits, some­thing he did for over 40 years.

Sur­vivors in­clude his chil­dren, Dar­rell Lester, Pa­tri­cia Dick­ens, both of Elkton, MD, and Jimmy L. Lester III (Michelle), Ear­leville, MD; sib­lings, Nelline Charles, Opal “Sally” Stacy, Bob Lester and Roger Lester; grand­chil­dren, Gar­net “Chuckie” Dick­ens, Kristi Nus­sle (Matt), Ira Dick­ens Sr. (Sa­man­tha), Karen Lester, Sarah Lester and Stephanie Ra­goobeer (An­drew); 8 great­grand­chil­dren; and broth­erin-law, Jerry Bon­sall.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Mr. Lester was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Beatrice Charles Lester; son, Jimmy L. Lester, Jr.; and grand­sons, Matthew and Jonathan Lester.

Funeral ser­vice will be held at 1 p.m., Fri­day, De­cem­ber 9, 2016, at Fel­low­ship Bap­tist Church, 725 W. Pu­laski High­way, Elkton, MD 21921, where visi­ta­tion will be­gin at 11 a.m. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Gilpin Manor Memo­rial Park, Elkton.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tions may be made to Fel­low­ship Bap­tist Church, at the above ad­dress.

A vei­wing will be held on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 9 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, MD, where funeral ser­vice will be­gin at 1 p.m. Burial will fol­low in St. Paul’s Ceme­tery, Ear­leville, MD.
