Gun­man holds up liquor store in Per­ryville; re­mains on the loose

— A gun­man re­mained on the loose Tues­day night af­ter rob­bing a Route 40 liquor store a day ear­lier, po­lice re­ported.

The holdup oc­curred at East Coast Liquors at 5279 W. Pu­laski High­way at about 7:30 p.m. Mon­day, when a man wear­ing a black mask and black cloth­ing walked up to the check­out counter, bran­dished a hand­gun and de­manded money, ac­cord­ing to Cpl. Robert Nitz, of the Per­ryville Po­lice Depart­ment.

Af­ter an em­ployee handed him an un­spec­i­fied sum of cash, the ban­dit fled from the store, Nitz said, adding that the sus­pect was last seen run­ning be­hind the build­ing.

PPD of­fi­cers searched the area sur­round­ing the store and dis­patched a K-9 unit, ac­cord­ing to po­lice. Ofc. Matthew Nus­sle, of the Elkton Po­lice Depart­ment, and his spe­cially-trained scent dog, Rom­mel, tracked the rob­ber a short dis­tance be­fore los­ing the trail, po­lice re­ported.

PPD of­fi­cers han­dled the ini­tial armed rob­bery call; how­ever, the in­ves­ti­ga­tion has been turned over to the Mary­land State Po­lice, ac­cord­ing to Nitz.
