ELKTON — The T-intersection at Red Hill Road (Route 281) and Muddy Lane in Elkton will be closed for approximately four weeks, starting sometime in late August, as construction of a roundabout at that spot gets underway, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

In preparation for a major crossroad pipe installation, crews are clearing the work area and, at some point soon, they will be moving large precast drainage fittings onsite, Charlie Gischlar, an SHA spokesman, reported Friday.

That pipe work will require closing the intersection for up to four weeks, he said. During that period, Gischlar added, variable message signs will be in that area, in addition to metal detour signs to direct traffic.

“We’re shooting for the end of August, but it could linger into early September,” Gischlar said, noting that, later this month, he would be able to provide a specific date for the start of the intersection closure.

After the initial utility and drainage work is completed and the intersection is reopened, crews will continue working on the $3.1 million roundabout project, which will result in occasional single

This bouncy house, offered as one of the free activities during Community Day at Abundant Life Worship Center, was continually busy Saturday.
