Man charged with ar­son threat

BEL AIR — An Elkton man who al­legedly sent text mes­sages to his mother threat­en­ing to burn down her house with her in­side has been with charged with ar­son threat and tele­phone mis­use, ac­cord­ing to the Of­fice of the Mary­land State Fire Mar­shal.

We s l e y Austin Jones, 21, turned him­self into au­thor­i­ties at the Howard R. Young Cor­rec­tional In­sti­tu­tion in Wilm­ing­ton, Del., Mon­day morn­ing. He is cur­rently free on per­sonal re­cog­ni­zance.

“We don’t know why he went there,” said Dep. State Fire Mar­shal Oliver Alkire. “It’s where he ended up.”

Ac­cord­ing to Alkire, there was a sum­mons is­sued for Jones in April af­ter the March 9 in­ci­dent in which Jones is ac­cused of threat­en­ing his mother both ver­bally and through text mes­sag­ing.
