Elks edge Bull­dogs in penalty strokes


ELKTON — It took a pair of over­time pe­ri­ods and penalty strokes, but the Elkton field hockey team found a way to keep its early-sea­son record un­blem­ished.

Vanessa Dunn and Elissa Mel­lott both found the back of the cage in penalty strokes as the Golden Elks out­lasted vis­it­ing North Caro­line 3-2 in non-con­fer­ence ac­tion on Mon­day.

Prior to penalty strokes, both teams bat­tle through a pair of score­less, 10-minute over­time pe­ri­ods.

Dunn fin­ished with a goal and an as­sist and Han­nah Moore also found the back of the cage, while Ni­cole Baldino dished out one helper for Elkton (2-0) in the vic­tory.

North East 5, Edge­wood 0

The In­di­ans im­prove to 1-0 over­all.

The Rams fall to 0-2 over­all.

UCBAC Boys’ Soc­cer West Not­ting­ham 5, Per­ryville 2

Gasper Wam­brau scored four goals and added one as­sist for the Rams, who re­ceived one goal from Vin­sen­sius Pekei.

Nick Al­berdin and Ben Roberts both found the back of the net for the Pan­thers (0-2), who led 2-0 at half­time.

North East 6, Aberdeen 0

The In­di­ans im­prove to 2-0 over­all.

The Ea­gles fall to 2-1 over­all.

UCBAC Girls’ Soc­cer Edge­wood 5, Elkton 0 The Rams move to 3- 0. Lexi Ze­oli had 13 saves for the Golden Elks ( 1- 1).

Luke Silva had a hat trick and Bran­don Mixon had two goals, while Alex Ci­folelli ( two as­sists), Nathan Wal­ton, Gideon Peter­son, Ryan Rash and Gabe Giesing all scored once for the Cru­saders ( 2- 2).

UCBAC Boys’ Soc­cer P. Mill 4, Ris­ing Sun 2

Jackson Sopa scored twice and Drew Winiar­czyk had an as­sist for the Tigers (1-1).

Huskies move to 3-0.

Youth Soc­cer Ce­cil 1, Fall­ston 0

Kylie Narvell scored the lone goal for the Ce­cil Kick­ers, who re­ceived 10 saves from Shadai Givens.
