ELKTON — Gilpin Manor Elementary School students aren’t letting their youth stop them from taking the first steps to become leaders at their school and in the community.

Since the beginning of the year, students have been learning and reflecting on what it means to be a leader as well as putting that information into practice by interviewing for leadership positions at school such as assembly helper, safety patrol and student ambassador. All that work culminated in Leadership Day, which was held Tuesday at the school and consisted of a short program, followed by a series of student recognition ceremonies and student- led conferences.
