CASA in search of Festival of Trees sponsors
ELKTON — With Halloween around the corner, Court Appointed Special Advocates — or CASA — is looking for sponsors for its second Festival of Trees fundraiser to be held Nov. 9 through Dec. 1 at Woody’s Crab House in North East.
Erin Grauer, coordinator of the Festival of Trees, said the new location was necessary.
“Last year we held it inside West Street Village. When (Elizabeth Felts) donated the space to us last year it was not rented out,” Grauer said. “She had no space this year.”
Grauer said Peter Wood offered the use of the tented Tiki Bar for the display of decorated trees to be sold at silent auction.
“It will become CASA’s Winter Wonderland,” she said.
Last year CASA raised $5,000 through the event, which went toward support of the program helping Cecil County children in the foster care system.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a tree should contact Grauer via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the office at 135 E. Main St. in Elkton and get a packet.
“You can call and we can email a packet to you,” she added. That number is 410996-3025.
The deadline to sponsor a tree is Oct. 26.
Sponsorship is $100 and provides a 6-foot tall artificial tree. How the tree is decorated is up to the sponsor. It can be done by the sponsor or by someone else, with an eye toward one of three categories: traditional, whimsical, or a Cecil County/ Maryland theme.
“We hope to have more trees this year,” Grauer said.
The public will be able to view the trees and place bids with help from Woody’s during the week. CASA staff will take over the bidding duties on weekends.
Cecil County Circuit Court Judge Will Davis will choose the winners again this year.
The Festival of Trees, a fundraiser to benefit CASA, will be held Nov. 9 through Dec. 1, this year at Woody’s Crab House, 29 S. Main St. in North East. Sponsors interested in decorating one of the trees to be auctioned off should contact Erin Grauer at CASA by Oct. 26.
