Agnes Eva Eskridge of Elk­ton, MD, 89, passed away Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 4, 2018. Born on Feb. 5, 1929 in Elk­ton, she was the daugh­ter of Elsworth How­ell John­son and Elsie Malinda (Grant) John­son.

Agnes worked on Main St. in Elk­ton, her en­tire life. She worked for Mokal’s dur­ing her high school years and went on to work for J.J New­berry’s for over 35 years, from which she re­tired in 1994. Agnes was bap­tized in and at­tended the Friend­ship Bap­tist Church in Ne­wark, DE. De­spite be­ing wid­owed three times, Agnes con­tin­ued to share her lov­ing and kind na­ture with those around her.

Agnes was a hard­work­ing wo­man and de­voted mother who spent most of her time work­ing and tak­ing care of her home and fam­ily. In her free time, she en­joyed read­ing ro­mance nov­els, lis­ten­ing to clas­sic countr y mu­sic and col­lect­ing as­sorted cast iron fig­ures. Agnes was fond of birds, specif­i­cally ducks and car­di­nals. She also made sure that her home was dec­o­rated for each hol­i­day, and par­tic­u­larly en­joyed Christ­mas; mak­ing sure each year that Christ­mas was spe­cial. Agnes loved to laugh and her most trea­sured time was spent with her fam­ily.

The fam­ily would like to ex­tend their thanks to the staff of Abbey Manor As­sisted Liv­ing and Am­e­d­y­sis Hospice for their kind­ness and care of Agnes.

Agnes is sur­vived by two daugh­ters: Dolores Mur­son, of North East, MD; Karen Mullins and her hus­band Ron, of Spot­syl­va­nia, VA; grand­son, Ja­son Mullins, of Fred­er­icks­burg, VA; two great grand­daugh­ters: Elena and Ella Mullins, of Fred­er­icks­burg, VA; and two broth­ers: Robert John­son, of PA; and Del­bert John­son, of Elk­ton, MD. In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, Agnes is pre­ceded in death by her first hus­band, Melvin “Buzzy” Mur­son; sec­ond hus­band, Charles LeVan; third hus­band, James Eskridge; and brother, Arthur John­son.

A fu­neral ser­vice for Agnes was held Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 9 at R.T. Foard Fu­neral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elk­ton, MD 21921.

In lieu of flow­ers, memo­rial con­tri­bu­tions in Agnes’ honor may be made payable to “Leukemia & Lym­phoma So­ci­ety” or “Alzheimer’s As­so­ci­a­tion” and sent in care of the fu­neral home.
