The illuminated splendor known as the Enchanted Garden of Lights returns to Rock City Gardens this weekend for its 22nd year of enchantment.

As visitors enter the park through the new entrance, next to the original 1932 Gatehouse, they’ll venture down the North Pole Highway. From there they’ll have the option of visiting the four realms of wonder, each with a unique theme, in any order they choose, or go the traditional route beginning with the Grand Corridor in Yule Town.

The award-winning light extravaganza features more than 30 holiday scenes that transform the gardens into a nocturnal fantasyland.

Local and regional choirs, ensembles and bands will entertain nightly at the North Pole Lodge ( Rock City’s Pavil- ion). Starbucks also will have music on the patio from 5: 30 to 9: 30 p. m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Fire pits will be lit outside the North Pole Lodge and at Reindeer View Terraces and the Christmas Plaza each night.

Characters will be encountered along the trail, including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Inara the Ice Queen, Jack Frost, Frosty the Snowman, Rocky the Elf and North Pole elves. Jerry the Toy Soldier Mime will entertain each Friday through Sunday throughout the park.

Santa will be posing for photos and hearing wish lists nightly through Friday, Dec. 23, on the Cliff Terrace Porch. A VIP Dinner With Santa has already sold out three of its dates, but at press time there were still openings for Tuesday, Dec. 13. Cost is $42.95 for adults and children (2 and older). Call 423475-8988 for more information.

Leather craft, jewelry and Georgia Winery vendors will set up shop Friday through Sunday evenings to help with shopping tasks.

Concessions will include hot cocoa, apple cider, reindeer corn (kettle corn), cookies, funnel cake and even light-up cotton candy, a unique treat.

There will be an additional charge for some activities, including gingerbread cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus, Sugar Plum Fairy makeovers featuring glitter tattoos and design- your-own-Christmas stocking and personalized ornaments.

Guests should keep in mind that the Enchanted Garden of Lights trail is not fully stroller and handicap accessible. Backpack or front-style child carriers are recommended, and stroller parking is available at the trail entrance. There is a limited-access/ADA trail that provides a shortcut to the Pavilion and Lover’s Leap area.

The final touches are in place, including a bright star shining from Lover’s Leap, for Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights.

Jerry the Toy Soldier Mime will greet guests each Friday through Sunday at Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights.
